I was hoping Delores wouldn’t become a Black Cat Snowflake Ugly Christmas Sweater aggressive rooster, as my recently deceased “Lance” had been, before passing on to “rooster heaven” with the assistance of a local coyote. The rooster I currently had, Gordon, was a sweet boy and was very happy to have Lance gone. Lance had been a fierce rooster who attacked literally every moving thing but the hens and me (displaying extreme good taste and discretion) and I was not prepared to live through as second several years of yet another “attack rooster”. Neither were the neighbor dogs. Nor were the neighbors, for that matter. I really didn’t think this would be a problem, as Delores was such a sweet rooster – showing no violence or aggression at all, and just wanted to sit on my shoulder (rather like a parrot) and look around. He’d snuggle against anyone’s neck or in anyone’s lap who would hold him and he adored being petted. Delores ran around digging for bugs in the lawn – but was just as happy sitting by the kitchen sink watching me trim vegetables or whatever. He made (as all my chickens did) a truce with the cats and was friends with the goats, horses and my other rooster, Gordon. They all slept together in the barn at night.

Aesthetic reasons. You like the dark blue and orange combo of the Denver Broncos then that can be your team (also opens up the Boise State Broncos in college football). I’m a Denver Broncos fan and Kansas City is a Black Cat Snowflake Ugly Christmas Sweater rival but I have to admit I like their home uniform. Like red and black? That gives you the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL, Texas Tech and Arkansas State and Cincinnati just off the top of my head. I don’t like the University of Texas but I happen to think their road uniform is one of the best in college football.

Judging from what I saw during Halloween and Thanksgiving, I would say the Black Cat Snowflake Ugly Christmas Sweater, cozy and nesting look is in. Stuff that gives off that homespun look. Think late 1960’s all the way up to the 1970’s. I don’t know if you remember the Carter era but I think that’s going to be during this season and the next. Inflation was high, gas prices went through the roof, hamburgers were so expensive, people weren’t used to prices being so high. So people stayed at home more, and I think that’s what is going to happen. They will be baking and cooking more at home as opposed to going out and running a big tab. But you asked about the decorations, and I will try to answer your question. Homemade, homespun, cozy and homey. I think that’s going to be the trend, this year. People don ’t have the money for the glitz or all the bells and whistle this holiday season. No over the top, no putting on the dog, so to speak or no needless spending.
